Music

Collection

I have a few CDs, as you can see. I don't keep count, but the total is getting near to one thousand and is growing rapidly. In late 2006 I bought an enormous 1500 CD shelf unit to store my collection and allow room for growth.

I've not catalogued all my CDs and unfortunately the original photo (which you can see if you click the photo, then the bigger one on the next page) doesn't clearly show the titles, so here's a table of most of the artists on each shelf.

On top of the unit is the "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" BBC radio series box set and Monty Python's "Complete CD Collection", visible in the original photo.

Playing

With the addition of my Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH receiver, my home theater is now my preferred listening venue for music, though I still listen to most music in the bedroom

The sound is based around the Sony STR-DB840 Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1 Receiver which replaced the TEAC AG-D7900 Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1 Receiver, originally part of the HT-S600 "home theater in a box" with the LSR 100B 5.1 speaker set.

Sound comes from a pair of (no longer trading) The Speaker Company (tSC) TSBL bookshelf speakers with 6½″ aluminum woofer and 1″ polycell dome tweeter. These large rear ported 14.4″ × 7″ × 10.8″ speakers deliver a performace which substantially exceeds their very modest $107.99 price.

The five disc DVD changer is a Panasonic DVD-F84S which handles a wide range of media: DVD-V, DVD-A (2 channel), DVD-RAM, DVD-R, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and most significantly is one of a very few players to decode HDCD. It is connected to the TV's component video input for best picture, and to the receiver from the co-axial digital audio output.

The Panasonic CT-27D11 is a decent older 27” direct view TV. When properly adjusted, it has excellent colour and contrast, especially with the component video input. While fine for watching 4×3 programming, it is a bit small for widescreen movies.

In case you wondered, the rainbow coloured things are large koosh balls, which are great for juggling. The duck quacks.

I also listen to music on my home theater equipment, on my computer, my Cowon iAUDIO 7 4GB digital audio player which plays Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, MP3 and other formats or any of these with my Sennheiser HD 555 or Panasonic RP-HT1000 headphones.
